Hanwag only uses yak leather from herds raised using sustainable livestock management in Mongolia. The raw material is then processed by the Josef Heinen leather tannery in Germany. The leather used to make these models conforms with the rigorous ‘Gold Standard’ standards of the Leather Working Group, a multi-stakeholder group responsible for the environmental and sustainable certification for leather production.
